How to Take Ridiculously Cute Holiday Photos of Your Pet

Lights, Camera, Action Ooopsies! We know we’re not alone when it comes to holiday photos with pets. Knowing how to take ridiculously cute holiday photos of your pet can be challenging. Either they choose that specific time to be a ball of energy, or when we finally get a photo in, they end up looking demonic—because the flash was on! But, worry not. If you wish to take some ridiculously cute pictures of your pet this holiday season, we’ve got some tips for you. Here are some tips on how to take ridiculously cute holiday photos of your pet this holiday season.

Shoot Early in the Day

The best time to take pictures of pets is when the sun is up. Setting up the lighting later in the day is too much of a hassle. In addition to finding the right light, you’ll be adding more safety hazards around you with things like lamps, ring lights, and equipment for the shot. This can be a tripping hazard for both you and your pets. Natural lighting is the way to go. The natural light you get from the sun is likely to give you a perfect picture every time. There’s less worrying about angles both indoors and outdoors when the sun is shining bright.

Use Squeaky Toys

As pet owners, we know our pets can get easily distracted. Having toys and objects that get their attention can help us snap the perfect picture. Be sure to hold the toy in the position you would like your pet to look, or you can even use it to get them moving for action shots! Whether you’re indoors or outdoors, the squeak or sound of their favorite toy is sure to get their attention and their focus back to you and on the camera!

Give Treats

In addition to toys, treats can be a great way to get your pet’s attention. Waving a treat over your head or in front of you can have them looking in the direction you want. Along with more control of the photoshoot, you can use this opportunity for training to reward good behavior. It’s never a bad time to practice training. Have your pet posing the way you want by acknowledging their behavior with positive reinforcement.

Have Patience

Our pets don’t even know what photos are. They look at us and follow our directions without knowing our intentions. Don’t forget to be patient with your pets, as taking pet photos is likely to take some time. Holiday photos sometimes involve decorations and props, and all these objects can distract our pets. Be sure you come prepared with toys and treats, but don’t stress if photos take longer than expected. Perfection takes time!

Take Breaks

Taking breaks during photos is essential. Our pets are like kids and have short attention spans. If you notice your pets getting restless and not listening as they were, this is a sign that they need a break. Taking a break can help your pets reset, spend some pent-up energy, or relieve themselves with a bathroom break. With the amount of patience our pets have with us, it’s only fair we are just as patient with them.

Great holiday pet photos are never a guarantee. Knowing how to take ridiculously cute holiday photos of your pet can take a lot of practice and time. Remember, sometimes it might not work, and that’s OKAY. Please feel free to share your holiday pet photos with House Calls Pet Sitting this holiday season. Have fun with it, and let your pet feel all the love the holiday brings.
