5 Dog Breeds That Stay Small Forever

We know quite a few paw-rents who just LOVE small dog breeds. We thought we’d help you narrow down your list with 5 dog breeds that stay small forever. Small dogs often make up for their size with their huge personalities to keep you on your toes. Their personalities do pack a punch, but they are the best cuddle buddies that can fit almost anywhere! They’re endearing little companions who are perfect for homes with limited space.

Pomeranian

Pomeranians, also known as Poms, are energetic and loyal small dog breeds that love to speak their mind. These little guys grow to be 7 to 12 inches tall and can weigh around 7 pounds. Poms are known to be great companions and social dogs that can live up to 16 years. They are an excellent fit for a small home or apartment and someone looking for a long-term companion. If the pomeranian’s cuteness didn’t win you over, then their loyalty, affection and friendliness will! These dogs make excellent and protective watchdogs. Poms tend to bark, but this behavior can be corrected through consistent training. A responsible dog owner and a loyal dog is a recipe for a successful relationship.

Chihuahua

If you’re looking for a tiny dog, then the chihuahua may be the best fit for you. These little guys grow to be 5 to 8 inches tall and don’t weigh more than 6 pounds. Chihuahua’s can be charming and loving; however, their personality packs a punch! These dogs can have a Napoleon complex and are ideal for city-living in a small space. Chihuahua’s are confident and sassy and are not afraid to be themselves. Although they are known as affectionate dogs, chihuahuas have boundaries to respect. Households with small children are not ideal for this dog breed as they require experienced care and handling.

Yorkshire Terrier

The Yorkshire Terrier is another affectionate small dog breed that is eager to please. These high-energy dogs need mental stimulation, so if you’re an active and adventurous type, they may fit your lifestyle better. These mini energy bombs grow to be 7 to 8 inches tall and weigh up to 7 pounds. The Yorkshire terrier is eager to please, so training them can be easy if you follow a consistent training regimen. They do tend to bark, but this habit can be unlearned with the proper care and attention.

Papillon

Papillons are amiable and happy dogs. They love to please as much as they love to play and keep busy. These little dogs average about 8 to 11 inches in height and weigh between 5 and 10 pounds. Papillons love being active and are also vigilant watchdogs that love to protect. These little guys can do great in small spaces as long as you regularly exercise them. Because of their affectionate and friendly nature, they also do well with children who can help you tire these little guys out.

Brussels Griffon

The Brussel Griffon, also known as a ‘bearded dog,’ is an alert and curious dog with a big personality. Loyal to their owners, they are an intelligent breed with moderate levels of energy. They do not like being alone, so they make a great cuddle buddy to snuggle up with on the couch. These little guys can grow 7 to 10 inches tall and weigh between 9 to 10 pounds. Although they are sociable, affectionate, and easy to train, these little guys are sensitive, so households with small children inexperienced in dog handling are not ideal.
